Welcome from the Principal
Welcome to the web site of St. Thomas School.
I hope our web site gives you at least a hint of the
challenging, spiritual, and personalized education that enables
STS students to achieve success in high school and beyond.
If you visit our school you will find a full
day pre k and kindergarten program as well as a new After School
program. We have
enhanced our computer technology program with the addition of
interactive white boards and wireless laptops for all middle
school students. New
math and reading programs were introduced to help us adhere to
curriculum standards set forth by the Office of Catholic
Schools. The school
library has been updated and we now have over 2,000 book titles
on our shelves.
A new colorful playscape has been erected in a
secured playing area for the students to enjoy.
A new parking lot brings you to our front door which is
currently being beautified with new greenery and flowers.
Our school has a large gymnasium, a cafeteria and
spacious classrooms.
There are areas dedicated to Spanish, Art, Music and Computer
Technology. We have
a friendly outgoing faculty and staff who will go out of their
way to make you and your family feel at home.
If you stay long enough, you’ll become aware
of our dedication to each student as we strive to provide a
quality Catholic education based on our mission statement:

community dedicated to:
+Developing lifelong learners
+ Instilling Christian values
+ Guiding students to a personal
relationship with Christ

Biographical Sketch of the Principal
MaryPat Wirkus
I began teaching in 1969 as a fourth grade
teacher at St. Brigid’s School in West Hartford, Ct. Over a span
of 30 plus years in
the Diocese of Hartford I have taught every grade from first
through eighth. I realized very early on that my real love of
teaching was working with middle school students. I was given
the opportunity to become a principal in 1986 and have loved
every minute of administration from that time on.
I am now entering my 14th year as a principal
in the Archdiocese of Hartford.
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary
Education; a Master’s degree in Administration/Supervision and a
6th. year degree for principals in the State of
Connecticut.
I love being a principal in the town in which I live.
