Welcome to Language Arts (Grades 6,7 & 8)

Welcome back to the school year 2010.  There are changes in staff’s expectations.  Please be open to new ideas and alternative ways of doing “the same ole” things.  We grow with flux and new horizons.

This year in Language Arts we will be explorers of our own inner universe, ourselves and how we process our talents.  Through our grammar, writing, vocabulary and reading we will be solvers, reapers, harvesters of our crops.  Think “tech” steward of the “grey matter.”  We will dare to aim for the sky as our limit and think “what if.”

Our basic foundation will be the syntax of grammar-the eight parts of speech.  Our growth will stem from the syntax.

September will be a month of grammar review and discovering empty “beds” in our learning.  Sixth grade will be busy sowing; seventh grade will be reviewing the “beds” and eighth grade will be preparing for high school.

Writing will be daily: sentences, paragraphs, essays.  Vocabulary enhances all Language Arts.

Reading:  I would like to continue independent reading outside of class with my guidance.  We have our literature texts also as resources.  For new adventure in novel thinking:  Macbeth; Julius Ceasar;  Romeo and Juliet; Edgar Allen Poe short stories and poems,  The Pigman; The Pigman Legacy, The Giver, Tale of Two Cities; The Old Man and the Sea;  To Kill a Mocking Bird;  O’Dell’s, The Black Pearl;  Steinbecks, The Pearl.  So many books, so many choices!!!!  Don’t worry, each child will only be reading a few of these books not all of them. God bless us this new year
