Welcome to Language Arts (Grades 6,7 & 8)

January - February News

Happy New Year!

January is Catholic Schools Month and St. Thomas teachers have planned many activities.  The 6th and 8th graders will participate during multi-cultural week, the last week in January.  Academic studies will be on-going.  The activities will be minor breaks from our first duty—teaching!

The 6th graders have just finished battling the Manta Diablo and have returned

The Black Pearl to the Madonna with love.  Being an equal opportunity teacher, since they have explored the deep blue sea, I will now send them on an adventure to the deep blue sky, parallel worlds and beyond through A Wrinkle in Time.

Writing for 6th – 8th graders:

                                                Next in our text

                                                Is a unit on poetry

Not all will rhyme, you see

We will study free verse, haiku

                                                 Narrative and silly poems too

                                                 They will read and write

                                                 Create and recite

                                                  In chant or chorus

                                                  But nothing too boorish

Vocabulary and grammar will continue to bring smiles, which are frowns upside down.  Remember - a well constructed sentence with just the right words adds clarity and   meaning to a composition well done.

Still to come are oral book reports for 6th – 8th.  A debate in 7th and mini-films in 8th. Awards for all and maybe even Oscars will be presented.

Shakespeare still rules in Ms. M’s class, “friends, Romans, countrymen” for 7th and “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou” for 8th,  plays that will prepare them for high school.

I thank you parents for your student’s gifts to me, and thank you for supporting me as their teacher.   Can you say:  Hello, Goodbye and how are you in any foreign language?  E-mail me-   we need these phrases for multi-cultural week.
