Welcome to Grade 4

Winter News

Happy New Year!

Welcome back!   I hope you all had a joyful and restful Christmas vacation.  As we begin 2012, please encourage your child to keep focused on his/her studies as we celebrate Catholic Schools’ Month, a month filled with many activities in honor of our school and Catholic Faith..  I would also like to welcome our two international students from Korea, Seunghyun and Junsu.

In Religion, we will be learning how the Ten Commandments help us to love God.  Each chapter will be discussing a different Commandment.  Our theme for Reading is Creative Minds, which includes expository nonfiction, folktales, mysteries and a play.  In Science class, we will finish studying the human body and begin our unit on Physical Science.  This is an interesting and hands-on unit, in which the students will make discoveries about the world around us!  We are also fortunate to have a representative from CL&P coming to discuss electrical safety. Our Connecticut adventure will continue with the exploration of everyday life in the colonies and the struggle for independence. In English, the fourth graders will be finishing our unit on adjectives and polishing their capitalization and punctuation skills in our next unit.  We will be putting our grammar skills to good use in our writings.  The fourth grade is now beginning to study Division.  Please encourage your child to practice the multiplication tables, as they are the building blocks for Mathematics.

Multiplication Tables must be MEMORIZED!
